On 6 October, the Talne community launched the strategic environmental assessment (SEA) procedure for the draft Development Strategy of the Talne Urban Territorial Community until 2030.
An SEA makes it possible to see, already at the planning stage, how future decisions will affect the environment. For example, establishing an industrial park means new enterprises, jobs and investors. At the same time, it may increase:
🔷 water abstraction;
🔷 the volume of industrial waste and emissions;
🔷 the area of built-up land;
🔷 the transport load.
The purpose of the assessment is to anticipate such consequences in advance and take them into account in the Strategy.
During the meeting, participants learned what an SEA is, why the community needs it and which stages lie ahead, including public consultation.
The Cherkasy Regional Development Agency works on the Strategy and its environmental assessment in partnership with Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy. The following experts joined the work:
🔷 Oleksandr Spriahailo, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and International Affairs;
🔷 Oksana Spriahailo, Associate Professor at the Department of Agronomy, Biology and Ecology.
🤝 We thank the participants of the meeting for their engagement, and our partners from the university for their professional support.
